to talk about things like, you know, like ending tax breaks and getting people back to work, it seemed like those things backfired with a very powerful mitt romney standing next to him. let me show you exactly what i mean and i want to ask you about it on the other side. >> part of the way to do is to not give tax breaks to companies that are shipping shops overseas. right now, you can actually take a deduction for moving a plan overseas. i think most americans would say that doesn't make sense and all of that raises revenue. >> you said you debt a deduction for take ago plant overseas? look. i've been in business 25 years. i have no idea what you're talking about. i maybe need to get a new accountant but the idea that you get a break for shipping jobs overseas is simply not the case. what we do have right now is bringing money overseas back to this country. >> dana, if he was trying to, you know, articulate some good policy there, it seemed like he just kept getting smacked down. whereas on the campaign trail, he is not getting the smack downs. >> what you just play is so -- for two r

debate. we're going to do that here, but i do want to begin with talking taxes. yes. taxes. did you hear paul ryan, if i heard this correctly, if i heard paul ryan correctly, he said he cannot explain mitt romney's tax policy, at least not the whole thing because, well, it would take too long. we'll play some of that sound for you in a moment. romney and ryan, they are clear about this. that they would cut everyone's tax rate 20%. cut and dry, 20% rate cut. but, to protect the government's revenue stream, they would have to kill certain deductions and certain loopholes, but they won't be specific, won't say which ones those would be. here is congressman ryan, he starts by trumpeting the tax rate cut. >> lowering tax rates by broadening the tax base works. and you can -- >> but i have to -- >> no. >> but you haven't given me the math. i don't have the -- it would ta me too long to go through all the math. >> too long to go through the math, he says. but ryan did go on to hint, didn't promise, but he hinted that a romney administration would look at tax loopholes enjoyed by the wealthy. he

. how they can justify -- how they can justify raising taxes to the middle class, who has been buried the last four years, how in lord's name can they justify raising their taxes with these tax cuts. >> dan, look, there is plenty of fodder for this debate without that. but since that is so 11th hour, is that expected to be played up heavily tonight? >> i don't think the obama campaign doesn't think this will be a distraction, but perhaps this will be something that governor mitt romney will jump on at some point during the debate. it is interesting, the vice president made those comments yesterday while campaigning in north carolina. and right after that, the romney campaign jumped all over those remarks. in fact, they put together a conference call to draw attention to that. the obama campaign fighting back saying that's an act of desperation and what the vice president was talking about is that there was this climate over the last four years that were created by decisions that were made in the previous administration. and so, again, they don't see it as a distraction, but i wouldn't

having an honest conversation and making sure that they actually get down to brass tax as opposed to the thousands upon thousands of ads we've been showered with here in the state over the past year. that's really, at the end of the day, what people are looking for, real solutions, ideas and how do we get that back to the state of the country. >> you don't want to hear zingers? >> it's fun for me, i'm a radio talk show host but for voters they're looking for mitt romney to be tough, for the president to be tough. i think at the end of the day they want solutions. >> recent poll shows president obama up a stun ing stunning 15. is that what you're seeing and hearing on the show? >> not really. our guest yesterday was blunt and called it garbage. when you're talking about that kind of poll, we call it an outlyer here in new hampshire, 15-point lead for the president is pretty obscure. it's much, much closer than that, much closer to the four to seven points that the president has been ahead since the convention. >> high profile, viral videos in roent weeks, one featuring mitt romney

, a subaru. i"i'm not in favor of a a$5 trillion tax cut. that's not my plan." mitchell: "the nonpartisan tax policy center concluded that mitt romney's tax plan would cost $4.8 trillion over 10 years." vo: why won't romney level with us about his tax plan, which gives the wealthy huge new tax breaks? because according to experts, he'd have to raise taxes on the middle class - or increase the deficit to pay for it. if we can't trust him here... how could we ever trust him here? >>> less than a month away now before election day. and how can we forget political ads, they remind us each and evy hour on the hour what is happening now. with barack obama and mitt romney had to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to define themselves for us while, of course, vilifying the other. that's why when i draw your attention to this documentary, that airs tomorrow night, on pbs, it is from the folks who bring us front line. here is just a preview. >> i got my start as a community organizer. >> i know how the private sector works. i know how jobs come. i know how they go. >> for years, these two men have b

going to cut income tax rates by 20% to make up the difference by eliminating deductions in credit. is he going to get into some of these details here about how this is all going to shake out? anna, start with you. >> you know, suzanne, i don't know how much time is loued in the debate to go into real detail of a plan. certainly you can't go into detail about 59 points, but dow hope he chooses two, three, four points to really focus on, make the sale. this is his strength. it should be something that he is able to sell well. more than four million jobs have been added back into the economy since he took office. you got growth. it's been stuck at 1%, which really is pretty disastrous for a recovery. what does he have to say to convince voters that, you know what, stick with me, stick with my plan? >> well, first of all, i don't think 90 minutes is long enough for mitt romney to explain his 59-point plan. or if i can figure out if it adds up and not add up to the federal deficit. i think president obama needs to make his points very clear and concise and not try to give us too many s
